Structured Technologies delivered a customised audio-visual and control solution designed to elevate the dining and entertainment experience at Fergus Bar & Restaurant.
The brief required a system flexible enough to support relaxed background music, crisp commentary for live sports, and higher-energy audio for evening entertainment. A key requirement was to enable live performers to plug into the venue’s house audio system seamlessly. Visually, the venue needed three distinct viewing zones for live sport.

A Tailored AV Solution
To achieve complete audio flexibility, we installed 2 Extron XLR-to-Dante converters, one at each end of the venue. These inputs are selected via the Control4 Touchscreen and sent over the network using the Dante protocol to a BlueStream Dante receiver.
For amplification, 2 Episode EA 2-Channel 70v amplifiers drive four audio zones:
- Outdoor dining
- Restaurant
- Bar
- Restrooms
Balancing the audio across zones of differing sizes and functions was a major design challenge. This was solved using a Yamaha MTX-3 DSP, equipped with a custom driver to integrate seamlessly with the Control4 system. The DSP manages all audio levels, individual zone volume, and input/output routing to the amplifiers.
Display Systems
- Bar: Panasonic PT-VMZ71 projector with a 120” pull-down screen
- Restaurant: 70” TCL display
- Outdoor fireplace area: 85” TCL display
Control4 Integration
Through the Control4 interface, staff can power all displays on or off, either collectively or individually, and link or separate sources as required.
A Pulse-Eight neo: XSR 4K Video Matrix distributes video from a Sky NZ cable box and a Freeview cable box, while also carrying IR control for the fixed displays. All routing of inputs and outputs is managed through Control4.
System control is centralised via a Core 3 controller and a 10” Control4 touchscreen, giving staff intuitive control over every audio and visual zone.
Background music is delivered via Control4’s Spotify Connect, routed via the Yamaha DSP. Live sports audio is mixed through the Sky NZ cable box and finely balanced to suit either dining ambience or full sports commentary.
The Result
A fully integrated, user-friendly system that enhances the atmosphere for guests, whether they’re enjoying a meal, watching the game, or taking in live entertainment. The result is an immersive, engaging, and effortlessly controlled environment for both staff and patrons.
