The Pa – University of Waikato
Project Showcase
The Pā is a state-of-the-art 6,500sqm main entrance and student hub at the University of Waikato. Completed in 2023, this landmark development represents the largest capital investment in the university’s history and one of the most architecturally complex education projects delivered in New Zealand.
Structured Technologies, as part of the Feisst Group, delivered the data and audiovisual (AV) solutions supporting the building’s multi-function rooms, student hub, and wharenui, enabling flexible, technology-enabled spaces for learning, collaboration, and cultural use. The project was delivered in coordination with Feisst Electrical and Select Alarms under Hawkins Construction.
The Pā – University of Waikato
Our Scope
Structured Technologies delivered the data and audiovisual (AV) solutions across key spaces within The Pā, supporting a range of teaching, collaboration, and cultural functions.

Key Spaces & Technology Solutions
Multi-function Rooms – Te Kōpūroa
The multi-function rooms (Te Kōpūroa) were equipped with advanced multimedia capability, including seven multimedia screens, a projector, and video conferencing and presentation systems, allowing the spaces to be easily adapted for teaching, meetings, and events.
Student Hub – Te Āhurutanga
Within the Student Hub (Te Āhurutanga), STL delivered AV infrastructure to support large-scale and informal use, centred around a 15-metre-long feature screen. Conferencing facilities enable seminars, workshops, breakout sessions, and formal occasions, providing a highly flexible environment for students and staff.
Wharenui – Ko Te Tangata
The wharenui (Ko Te Tangata) was fitted with four large screens, alongside integrated multimedia and audio systems, enabling the space to support a wide range of cultural, community, and university events with sensitivity to both function and form.
Project Challenges & Delivery
Across the project, the highly architectural design - including extensive exposed services and minimal ceiling spaces - required innovative approaches to data and AV cabling. STL worked closely with the wider project team to discreetly integrate technology using cable trays, conduits, and catenary systems, ensuring performance and accessibility without compromising the building's architectural or cultural integrity.
Delivered over a three-year programme from November 2020 to September 2023, The Pā demonstrates Structured Technologies’ capability to provide high-performance, future-ready data and AV solutions within complex education and cultural environments.
The Result
The Pā is regarded as one of the most complex project briefs completed in recent New Zealand architecture.
